It was another split decision for the Spartan tennis team.
The Spartans’ first appearance at Lower Woodland Courts this year ended in the win-some, lose-some column.
In a reverse of their home match last week, the Spartan boys upended the Seattle Prep Panthers 3-2, while the girls showed signs of improvement, but lost 0-5 to the solid Panther squad.
On the boys side, Ryan Wilson took the loss 0-6, 0-6 to Aaron Yuan in boys singles No. 1.
Mason Ogden made is first singles appearance of the year at No. 2 singles in a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory that was a battle from start to finish.
The boys No. 1 double match was a rematch of sorts from last year’s state tournament.
Eli Wagner and Jeremy Lipschutz (seventh-place state finishers) lost a close match to Matt Zech and Cole Blattner (third-place state finishers) 4-6, 3-6.
In No. 2 doubles, Aidan Sullivan and Maxwell Brown manhandled Elliot Evans and Chris Roberts 6-4, 6-2.
And at No. 3 doubles, Kawin Nikomborirak and Alec Chan finished off Will Tobin and Sam Perry 6-1, 7-6.
On the girls side, Ellie Van Slyke lost a seesaw affair to Maria Phillips 4-6, 3-6.
Sofia Scott lost a marathon match 3-6, 1-6 with long rallies that did not go her way enough of the time.
At girls No. 1 doubles, Maddy Britto and Anneka Claudio fell 3-6, 0-6 to Hailey Nelsen and Maya Somers. Mallory Browne and Marianne Milander played two close sets but lost 4-6, 2-6 to Fiona Scanlan and Andrea Shaw.
At No. 3 doubles, Madison Barrett and Mollie Alpaugh competed in their first Varsity match and played two very competitive sets, losing 3-6, 1-6 to Megan Floyd and Alexis Wong.
