Bernie Baker has been named as a director to the board for the Bainbridge Public Library.

Baker has been practicing architecture for more than 40 years, first in Pennsylvania and then in Washington state, as a project/design architect at several architectural firms, including the Westinghouse Corporate Design Center and the Callison Partnership.

He moved to Seattle in 1980 and after looking for the perfect place to live he moved to Bainbridge Island in 1983. He opened his architectural practice on the island in 1985 focusing on regional custom residential projects, and his work has been widely published and awarded.

Baker was also a part-time instructor at The Art Institute of Seattle in the 1990s in the college’s interior design and industrial design program. During the last decade, he has served the community as a director, president and volunteer at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum.

Officials with the nonprofit organization said Baker’s expertise will be put to use immediately as he takes over as the chairman of the Bainbridge Public Library’s facilities committee, which oversees the Bainbridge Public Library building and its grounds.
