Bainbridge Island artist Marilynn Gottlieb recently claimed the second-place prize at the 2017 London Art Biennale.
Her piece, “Bicycles in Tuscany,” a photograph transfer to copper plates assemblage, shared top honors with Kazakhstan’s Said Atabekov (tied for second place), Belgium’s Julia Levkova (first) and a third-place tie between two Chinese artists, Zhang Huoshun and Liu Weihua.
The biennale is a multinational exhibition that was held from March 29 through April 2 and included works from 120 artists from 40 countries. Categories, in addition to photography, included painting, works on paper, sculpture, applied arts and digital art.
Gottlieb’s work has previously been displayed at Bainbridge Performing Arts, the Bainbridge Public Library, Blackbird Bakery, Frodel Gallery in Poulsbo and the Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton.
She has also particiated in numerous group shows, including the 2014 and 2015 Seattle Artist Trust Benefit Auction, the 2012 Northwind Gallery Juried Art Competition and the 2009, 2011 and 2015 Florence Biennale.
