BHS conquers Olympic in fastpitch

BAINBRIDGE – The Spartans shut out Olympic, 7-0, in girls varsity fastpitch softball behind a strong performance in the circle by Spartan pitcher Malia Peato.

The Spartans put two on the board in the first inning.

Kensey Baker bunted and ended up on third due to a three-base throwing error by Olympic. Tiana Rabang was hit by a pitch, and a Maddie Loverich ground out scored Baker. A double by Peato brought Rabang in for the final run of the inning.

In the third inning, Loverich reached on an error. Peato singled, then Sara Colley doubled to the left field fence to score both Loverich and Peato.

The Spartans stepped out to a 5-0 advantage in the fifth inning.

Peato led off with a double, and Colley connected on a single off the third base bag to send Ashleigh Cate, running for Peato, to third. Cate scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Olivia Wikstrom.

The Spartans closed the scoring in the sixth.

Morgan Lassoff singled to open the inning. With one out, Jenna Tabisola bunted toward third. A bad throw by the third baseman allowed Lassoff to score all the way from first.

Tabisola ended up on second, then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Loverich single.

After escaping a first-inning jam when she gave up three hits, Peato was in control in the circle.

She allowed only three base runners in the final six innings, one of which reached on the only Spartan error on the day. One of the runners was erased on a nicely turned 4-6-3 (second to short to first) double play.

Bainbridge improved to 13-1 in the Metro League with the win (15-2 overall).

Peato went 3-for-4, with two doubles, an RBI and a run.

Colley was also 3-for-4, with two doubles and two RBIs.

Loverich finished 1-for-4, with two RBIs and a run.
