Johannes Carsten Hauch’s poem The Wild Hunt tells the story of a long dead Danish king whose spirit rises to the living world in order to hunt the local fauna and generally just raise hell. If Hauch were to rise from the grave on his 144th birthday this weekend – on Bainbridge Island, no less – I like to think that he’d be looking for something slightly more pedestrian than racing around on horseback, slaughtering wildlife; here’s what we would recommend.
On Friday at 6:30 p.m. get over to Bainbridge Performing Arts and check out the opening night reception for “Big Fish,” a new Broadway musical featuring music and lyrics by Tony nominee Andrew Lippa.
The rollicking fantasy set in the American South is based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton. “Big Fish” centers around Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest — and then some.

On Saturday get over to the Ritchie Observatory at Battle Point Park and join astronomer Steve Ruhl for a look at the latest images from the Juno probe and the largest planet’s gravitational dominance over the solar system at the planetarium show “Jupiter and the Asteroids” at 8 p.m.
The show is free to members of the Battle Point Astronomical Association; $2 donation suggested for nonmembers, $5 for families.
BPAstro Kids will be discovering all about flight with “3-2-1 Blast Off!” with Dr. Erica Saint Clair at 4 and 5 p.m.
If the sky is clear, astronomers will be on hand with telescopes for public star gazing afterward.
On Sunday chill out over at the Dayaalu center with Dances of Peace at 7 p.m.
