The Bainbridge Spartans powered past Lake Sammamish 23-10 in girls lacrosse last week and upended Snohomish 17-11 in the state semi-finals to advance to Friday’s championship game.
The return to the title bout is the 19th trip for the storied Spartan program.
In the championship matchup — Friday, May 19 at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila — Bainbridge will once again face Eastside Catholic, the reigning state champs.
Bainbridge beat EC, 19-16, in their regular season matchup on May 5.
The Spartans survived a scare earlier this week against Snohomish to advance to the championship game.
Snohomish was able to tie the game at 10-10 before the halftime break, but the Spartans held on to win, thanks to a stout defense and the scoring skills of leading scorer Mackenzie Chapman.
Chapman scored six goals in the contest, but also added nine crucial draws.
Sophia Hagstromer added four goals, while Kendall Havill and Maggie Sweeney finished with three each.
Kiera Havill added a goal in the Spartan scorefest.
Goalie Thuy Ortiz finished with six saves for the Spartans, and with 17 shots on goal, she had a save percentage of 35 percent.
In early playoff action against Lake Sammamish, seven Spartans scored in the lopsided contest.
Bainbridge was again led by Chapman and Hagstromer, who split the rails for six goals each.
Kendall Havill added four, while Sweeney contributed three goals.
Eleanor Collins added two goals, while Kiera Havill and Bella Jackson had one goal each.
Friday’s championship game starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Starfire Sports Complex.
The title matchup will be proceeded by the “Future Champions” event at 6 p.m.
