A person on a boat in Eagle Harbor began shooting at the shore along Winslow — and at police officers who responded to the scene — Saturday night just south of downtown Winslow.
City officials were warning people to stay away from the area, and were also hoping boaters heading into the harbor could be alerted to avoid the area.
Details were initially sparse, but officials sent out a warning of an “active shooter” in the area just after 9:30 p.m. July 8.
“There is an individual on a boat in Eagle Harbor who is actively shooting at the shoreline and at law enforcement officers,” city spokeswoman Kellie Stickney said.
“We want the public to avoid the entire shoreline,” she said.
Police agencies from off-island could be heard traveling south on Highway 305 soon after the emergency was reported.
