The Bainbridge Island City Council is doing a bit of a switcheroo for this week’s council meeting.
Instead of gathering for their usually Tuesday night meeting, council members have pushed their meeting back until Wednesday, Aug. 2.
The culprit? Increased police activity tonight in Town Square.
Don’t despair; the expanded police presence in downtown Tuesday is due to National Night Out. The Bainbridge Island Police Department is hosting the community get-together right next to Bainbridge Island City Hall, and postponing tonight’s regularly scheduled council meeting will give city officials a chance to enjoy the festivities.
The 34th annual National Night Out returns to Town Square from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. The family-friendly event will include free food, games and the chance to battle Bainbridge Police Chief Matthew Hamner in a doughnut-eating contest. Prizes include the chance to ride on a police boat, a basket full of police-themed goodies and lunch with the chief.
The Bainbridge council will hold a special meeting starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.
The city council will get its mid-year financial report, and also review the council’s priorities for 2017.
