Laurence Hautau, a 30 year resident of Bainbridge Island, passed away on Aug. 19. Laurence was born on Dec. 15, 1937 in New York City to Alfreda and Herbert Hautau. His early childhood was spent in Tenafly, New Jersey. The family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where Larry attended Cincinnati Country Day School and graduated from Walnut Hills High School. He enjoyed his summers in Charlotte, Vermont with his extended family. His passion for boating began on Lake Champlain.
He graduated from Stanford University in 1959. He joined the United States Navy and served as a lieutenant in Hawaii.
Larry enjoyed a 32 year career at the Boeing Company in financial management. He was a cost estimator on the 747 and the 767 as well being involved in product development.
Larry and his son Larry Jr. traveled by land and sea. Driving across country was a favorite summer pastime. They enjoyed boating up the Inside Passage to Alaska as well as exploring the Hudson River and St. Lawrence Waterway.
Larry fought a very courageous battle against multiple sclerosis. He loved being outdoors, walking his beloved corgi Eddie and cocker Tyler every day for many years.
He is survived by his son Laurence Jr., brother Deryck and his ex-wife Mary Lou.
Services will be private. Donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to The Humane Society.
