Get ready, Bainbridge.
Seriously, now. Get ready.
Bainbridge Island is hosting its third annual Three Days of Preparedness, and the big event starts Wednesday, Sept. 27 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 30.
Islanders are invited to kick back and relax (but not really relax) with Film Night, the start of the three-day program, next Wednesday.
Bainbridge Cinemas will present the movie “The Geological Formation of Bainbridge Island,” a three-part film that details why we may not really be on solid ground when the Big One hits someday.
There were big crowds to see the free presentation of Part 1 and Part 2 of the movie at last year’s Three Days of Preparedness, and this year’s Film Night will also feature the world premiere of Part 3 of the documentary.
Film Night is free of charge (it’s sponsored by Puget Sound Energy), but tickets are necessary. Seats filled up fast for last year’s showings, so movie-goers should reserve a spot by visiting www.bain bridgeprepares.org/day-1-2. (Doors open for the first showing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the film starting at 6 p.m. Doors open for the second showing at 6:30 p.m. with the film beginning at 7 p.m.)
Organizers note that after both showings of the film, the audience can stick around for a question-and-answer session with Gregory Geehan, a geologist and narrator of the film.
On the second day of Three Days of Preparedness, there will be a Preparedness Expo at Bainbridge Island City Hall and Island Fitness on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The expo is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature information and workshops to help islanders be ready at home, on their commute, and at work when disaster strikes.
The workshops will cover topics ranging from disaster first aid, to retrofitting your home for an earthquake, to reuniting with your school-aged children after an emergency.
And on Sunday, Oct. 1, Three Days of Preparedness wraps up with a HUBs Demonstration at the Pavilion.
Residents can stop by anytime between noon to 2 p.m. and learn about the island’s system of neighborhood gathering sites for emergencies.
