Spartans fall in wrestling double-header

The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team went 0-for-2 in a doubleheader matchup against Nathan Hale and O’Dea on the road.

SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team went 0-for-2 in a doubleheader matchup against Nathan Hale and O’Dea on the road Thursday, Jan. 21.

The Spartans first lost 48-21 against Nathan Hale and then, in the second match of the night, came up short against O’Dea 72-6.

Against Nathan Hale, Bainbridge claimed two forfeit victories. The host racked up seven, and double forfeits negated two brackets.

Nathan Hale’s Zayab Nasir pinned Oleg Maguire in just 26 seconds in the 126-pound bout.

BHS’ Clay Wren scored the first Spartan win of the night, an 11-7 decision, in the 152-pound match against Drew Kent.

Spartan co-captain Aaron Jumpa pinned Gunner Welch in 3:02 for a win in the 170-pound match.

Against O’Dea, BHS claimed no wins by forfeit. O’Dea racked up nine.

There were no double forfeits.

Austin Alverado pinned BHS’ Rachel Longridge in 3:40 in the 106-pound match.

O’Dea’s Jack Pauly claimed a 3-2 decision over Maguire in the 126-pound struggle. Ben Beale claimed a 4-0 decision over Wren in the 152-pound bout as well.

In the 160-pound match, O’Dea’s Marcution Hamaker pinned Nate Michaels in one minute.

Jumpa repeated his victorious performance though, and pinned O’Dea’s Leo Rivera in 3:31 to claim the 170-pound bracket for Bainbridge.
