Jane Elizabeth Harrington passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 at her home on Bainbridge Island. She was 85 years of age.
She was born on March 8, 1932 to Francis Leroy and Martha Elizabeth Ost in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and grew up in the Bethlehem-Allentown area. She attended Cedar Crest College prior to moving to New York City with ambitions of getting into the fashion industry.
Those ambitions changed when she interviewed for, and began a job that would last for over 10 years with TWA as an airline hostess. While working for TWA, she traveled all over the world while maintaining her primary residence in San Francisco.
In 1964, Jane moved to New York City to get married and raise a family.
Jane returned to the West Coast when she moved from New York to Bainbridge Island in 1990 with her husband Don. She was active on the Island working with Deschamps Realty and Caldwell Banker in addition to volunteering at Helpline House.
Jane’s later life continued to be full with activities that she loved such as boating, travel and exploring and enjoying the outdoors.
Jane was a devoted wife and a loving mother of two. She is survived by her sons, Thomas I. Harrington of New York, New York and Paul K. Harrington of Greenwater, Washington; as well as brothers Fred Ost and Karl Ost; and her sister Sally Ann Ely.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island. A reception will follow at Conger Hall.
