This week’s Photos of Mystery | From the vault

Not too long ago, the staff of the Bainbridge Island Review was clearing out a long-unused storage area when we came across box upon box of old 35mm film negatives.

The boxes were stacked into the editor’s pickup truck, brought to our main office, and tucked away into an unused room that is now unofficially called “The Vault.”

Wouldn’t it be nifty, we thought, if we grabbed negatives at random from the boxes, scanned them, and put them online for our dear readers to see?

Welcome, then, to our new weekly Flashback Friday feature: Photos of Mystery.

This week’s photos, according to the only information on the box, are from 1989 — which we all recall as the year of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Detroit Pistons as NBA champions, New Kids on the Block and their number-one hit “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever),” acid-washed jeans and the Tiananmen Square uprising.
