Deadline nears for 2018 Poetry Corners event

In honor of National Poetry Month, Arts & Humanities Bainbridge will once again celebrate creative combinations of the written word through Poetry Corners, which will include a poetry competition, public exhibition and live poetry readings.

Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 1.

Since 1999, Poetry Corners has showcased original poems by local poets. Selected through a juried competition and displayed in prominent community locations, these insightful words inspire us to pause, read, absorb and reflect.

Final selections from the poetry competition will be exhibited in the windows of businesses and community spaces around Bainbridge Island throughout the month of April.

Poets will also share their works aloud at Poetry Corners LIVE, a celebratory evening of live readings on Wednesday, April 25.

The contest is open to all poets with a Bainbridge Island connection, and each author may submit up to three poems for consideration. Students should indicate grade level when submitting, and all hopefuls should indicate if a poem has been previously published (prior publication will be noted when the piece is displayed).

All poems must be less than 25 lines long, including title and line spaces, though author names need not be included in that count.

Email submissions to admin@ahbainbridge.org with the subject line “Poetry Corners Submission.”

Poems must be submitted via email as an attached Word document (.doc or .docx format).

There is an entry fee — $5 per student, $10 per adult — per poet.

Visit www.ahbainbridge.org for complete entrance instructions.
