Bainbridge blotter | Slander, he said

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Island Police Department blotter.

MONDAY, MARCH 26

9:10 a.m. While being towed north on Fletcher Bay Road, the left front wheel to a 2002 Chevy Silverado came off. Having the other wheel locked in place, the vehicle swerved off the road and struck a street sign and a power pole.

TUESDAY, MARCH 27

9:14 a.m. A 39-year-old Bainbridge Island man visited the police station to report an incident of slander.

The man said that somebody who had agreed with a Facebook post he recently crafted criticizing the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce for not responding to him, had recently shared with him an email which spoke very poorly of him.

In the email, the sender said that the chamber is not responding to the man’s inquiries because he has been stalking a young woman who is well-known to members of the board. It said he recently confronted her at the chamber office and staff were forced to step in.

None of that was true, the man told police, but that instead he was being confused with a similar-looking man who had in fact recently broken up with a woman who works for the chamber of commerce and who was aggressively stalking her.

The man told police he was worried that if such stories about him persisted it might affect his business.

A report was filed and the man was told to inform police of future such messages.
