One of Bainbridge Island’s most congested streets is going to get a little more clogged next week.
The city of Bainbridge Island has announced that the eastbound lane of High School Road NE in front of the Island Village Shopping Center will be closed to traffic on Tuesday, May 8.
People who use High School Road should plan for delays, city officials said, as work gets underway to repair a section of pavement on the street. The work is part of the city’s annual road improvement program.
The section of High School Road to be closed will stretch from Highway 305 to the roundabout at Madison Avenue.
City officials said the work will be adjacent to businesses along High School Road; the Island Village Shopping Center is home to a Safeway grocery, Rite Aid, Starbucks, and multiple restaurants and retail stores.
A barricade will be set up to block the eastbound lane of High School Road at the roundabout next to the library.
Drivers will be detoured north on Madison Avenue to its intersection with Highway 305.
City officials said local access to businesses will be maintained during the closure, which is expected to wrap up the same day.
The closure is planned to begin at 8:30 a.m. May 8, but the schedule is subject to change based on weather impacts or unforeseen construction delays.
