Bainbridge blotter | Car vs. bicyclist

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 16

7:30 a.m. A possible collision between a car and a bicyclist occurred while both were traveling south on Madison Avenue.

The driver, 17, of Bainbridge Island, went to make a right turn and did not see the cyclist, 30, also of Bainbridge, on the shoulder.

The cyclist said the car hit him and knocked him to the ground. He felt OK at the time, but told the driver to watch out for bicyclists. Later, once at work, the man began to feel pain and started to limp. He wanted to make a report for insurance purposes, he said, and planned to have his foot X-rayed.

The driver said she thought the man fell after braking suddenly to avoid colliding with her car, but that she did not actually hit him.

Police inspected the car and saw no damage — no dents or scratches — where the cyclist would have struck the car.

A report was filed.
