The Salon returns this Saturday

The Salon: A Forum for Conversation returns this month with a weighty topic: “How is the U.S. Democracy Working in 2018?”

The Salon is a monthly discussion group hosted by the Bainbridge Public Library, and meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the fourth Friday of the month. The Salon is for men and women who enjoy stimulating conversation and wish to learn from others in civil dialog.

Topics will vary, but the mode will be general interest subjects that impact the public. The Salon conversations will be energizing, fun and thought-provoking.

The next meeting is Saturday, June 22 in the conference room at the library.

Organizers for the next discussion note: “Political scientists generally agree that democracy is a political system where the people choose their leaders and hold those leaders accountable for their policies and their conduct in office. In a democracy, the people are sovereign — they are the highest form of political authority. Citizens of a democracy, in return for these rights, have the key responsibility to participate peacefully and respectfully in the democratic process.” And given these generally accepted principles, how is democracy working within the USA in 2018?

Other questions include:

What elements of our democracy need to be fixed, reinforced, or changed? How can we manage our roles, responsibilities and emotions locally and nationally?
