Bainbridge High School graduate David Zinn, Class of ’87, received his second Tony Award at the recent 72nd Annual Tony Awards.
Zinn won for “Best Scenic Design of a Musical” for his work on “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical.”
He was nominated, but did not win, for “Best Costume Design of a Musical,” for the same show.
This year’s awards were presented at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 10.
Zinn previously received a Tony, his first, in 2016 for “Best Scenic Design of a Play” for his work on “The Humans.” He was again nominated in 2017, but did not win.
“Spongebob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical,” (originally titled “The SpongeBob Musical”) was nominated for “Best Original Musical” as well, though it lost to “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two.”
The show is based on the Nickelodeon animated television series “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and made its world premiere in June 2016 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
