The Bainbridge Island School Board is expected to approve a new employment contract for District Superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen at its meeting this week.

Bang-Knudsen was hired as superintendent in April 2016. He moved up from his job as the school district’s associate superintendent of administrative services to replace Faith Chapel, who retired after eight years at the helm of the island’s public schools.

Bang-Knudsen’s original employment agreement ran from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2019. It included an annual salary of $168,000.

The school board, however, was scheduled to vote July 26 to give Bang-Knudsen a contract extension through July 1, 2021.

The new agreement is being recommended by Board President Sheila Jakubik.

“Dr. Bang-Knudsen has demonstrated his leadership in facilitating the continuous improvement of the Bainbridge Island School District over the past two years,” Jakubik said in a memo this week to her fellow board members.

A copy of the new agreement was not publicly available before the board meeting Thursday.
