Island Challenge gymnastics meet starts Saturday

More than 180 gymnasts will be flipping out and swinging, bouncing, flinging and balancing on rings, beams, horses, parallel bars, high bars and floor at this weekend’s Island Challenge gymnastics meet.

COMMODORE GYM – More than 180 gymnasts will be flipping out and swinging, bouncing, flinging and balancing on rings, beams, horses, parallel bars, high bars and floor at this weekend’s Island Challenge gymnastics meet.

The Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club will host their annual home meet on Saturday, Jan. 18

and Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Commodore School Gymnasium. Spectators can expect pikes, kips, saltos, roundoffs and flares galore. There may even be a Yurchenko or a Tsukhara amid the veritable potpourri of flipping fun.

Boys will compete at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, and girls will compete at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Admission is $7 for individuals, $25 per family, and children ages 3 and under are admitted free.

Islanders are encouraged to come and support local gymnasts at this fun sporting event.
