Kiernan Liberman of Bainbridge Island Diving Club represented Bainbridge Island at the U.S. Diving Junior Olympic National Championships held at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia on July 27-30.
An incoming junior at Bainbridge High School this year, this is Liberman’s second time attending U.S. Diving Junior Olympic National Championships; last year in the boys 14-15 age group on 1-meter and 3-meter springboard and the platform event, and this year in the 16-18 Boys age group on 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.
Liberman did not advance past the preliminary rounds, though Coach Chris Miller said, “He made a good showing at the bottom of his age group and the coaches and judges took note!”
Liberman is the first Bainbridge diver to go to National’s two years in a row, and, in two separate age groups. The last Bainbridge Island diver to attend National’s was Olaf Olson in 2005 in the 14-15 boys age group. Earlier this year, Kiernan won the WIAA 3A Boys 1-meter event at the state swimming & diving state championships held in Federal Way.
The Bainbridge Island Diving Club team is on hiatus until mid September.
