Frank Buxton arrived on Bainbridge Island with a smile in 1989. A veteran of television, movies and radio, he readily immersed himself in the Bainbridge arts scene with the then fledgling Bainbridge Performance Arts Center. His support and energy played a pivotal role in the theatre’s success to this day.

When Frank was in the theatre, you could find him by following the laughter. Frank passed away this year, and will be honored with his name on a bronze plaque at the Living Memorial Center at Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island.

The plaque will be presented to family and friends at the Bainbridge Kiwanis Club’s installation Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at St. Barnabas Church Meeting Hall. The Kiwanis Club of Bainbridge established the memorial at Battle Point Park in 1982 to honor posthumously-long time Bainbridge residents who through their professional and community service have made exceptional contributions to the welfare of the community. Thirty five Bainbridge residents who loved and served the Bainbridge community have been honored on the bronze plaque attached to a concrete pylon that served as the base for an 850-foot communication tower that played a military role from 1942 to 1959 as a vital communication link between the U.S. mainland and the Pacific. Trees have been planted in an amphitheater around the pylon to provide a peaceful place for reflection and memories. Name selection and placement is made by the Bainbridge Island Memorial Committee and the perpetual maintenance is provided by the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.
