The 2018 Primary Election is now certified as official.

Workers in the Kitsap County Elections Division finalized the vote tally on Monday of the Aug. 7 primary.

Turnout countywide hit 39.5 percent, and a total of 167,088 registered voters participated in the election.

Bainbridge voters narrowed the field for one of Washington’s seats in the U.S. Senate, and Washington’s 6th Congressional District, as well as a state and county races.

Maria Cantwell, the Democratic incumbent in the Senate, won 54 percent of the vote against Republican challenger Susan Hutchinson, who garnered 24 percent in a field of 29 candidates.

Congressman Derek Kilmer, the incumbent Democrat in the 6th District, finished with 63 percent of the vote. Republican Douglas Dightman had 32 percent and will advance to the General Election; Progressive Party candidate Tyler Myles Vega had 3.8 percent.

In the District 23, Position 1 race for the Washington House, Democratic incumbent Sherry Appleton had 63 percent of the vote. Challenger Becky Erickson, who is the mayor of Poulsbo and did not run under a party banner, had 36 percent.

In the three-way race for Kitsap County Coroner, Republican Russ Reuther (45 percent) and Jeff Wallis (31 percent) will advance to the November election. Pat Dawson, who like Wallis did not pick a party, was third (23 percent).

The primary also included the election of precinct committee officers across Kitsap County.
