The southern sidewalk along Winslow Way East across the street from the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, and a portion of Waypoint Park, will be closed from September through November as city crews replace a stormwater pipe at Ravine Creek.
The sidewalk is a popular route for people coming from the ferry into town, and for walkers headed to the Bainbridge terminal.
City officials said the sidewalk will be closed from the Tillicum Condominiums near Bjune Drive SE to Waypoint Park while the stormwater pipe is replaced.
Pedestrians will be detoured to the north side of Winslow Way. City officials noted that walkers can also use the Waterfront Trail as an alternate route getting to and from the ferry. Access to the Waterfront Trail is located at Waterfront Park or Shannon Drive from the west or Harborview Drive (across from Seaside Station) from the ferry terminal.
Drivers should note that the right-turn-only lane on Winslow Way East will be closed throughout the two-month project.
There may be short closures of the eastbound travel lane on Winslow Way to allow for construction activities, as well.
Flaggers will be present to control traffic, and drivers may encounter temporary delays while the work is underway. The travel lane closures will not occur during the morning or afternoon commute times, officials said.
People who live and work nearby should expect construction noise during the project. The work is allowed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
