To the editor:
So many letters seems to complain about so many issues and people, it seemed only right to recognize some who do so much: the post office people and their postal delivery men and women and the people who traverse the island in the very wee hours to deliver our newspapers.
Few realize the processes that have to occur BEFORE the mail gets out on the routes, including the people behind the desk who keep many of from making errors in mailing or who help ensure we’ll have our mail after retuning from trips. The delivery folks are out there as the old slogan assures us no matter how challenging the weather. As to our newspaper person, she is amazing, given how early she must sneak up on those receptacles through all kinds of rain, sleet, snow and all the rest.
It might also help for the community to know that federal employees’ salaries have been frozen for about three years, in case anyone wants to complain about where our taxes go. And I know the newspaper lady is not collecting commissions that are overflowing.
So much thanks to these almost always overlooked good people.
