SATURDAY, AUG. 11

4:44 p.m. Police were called to a High School Road shoe and clothing store after a shoplifting incident.

The store manager told police a customer had told her a “homeless-looking” man had stolen a winter jacket, a windbreaker and backpack from the store.

Upon checking, the merchandise was indeed missing, she said.

The apparently stolen items included a gray North Face men’s winter coat, valued at about $300; a North Face windbreaker, worth about $100; and a black or gray or dark navy blue North Face backpack, worth about $100.

The manager said the thief may have gone to the nearby homeless encampment in the woods along Highway 305. Police went there but did not find the merchandise.

They saw another potential suspect pushing a cart along High School Road. He allowed them to search his cart and was found to not have the missing stuff either.

Police said everybody at the camp and the man pushing the cart were all very cooperative in assisting with the search.
