Bainbridge Police are investigating a reported assault against a student from Sonoji Sakai Intermediate School just before 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15.

A student told police that an unknown man approached and inappropriately touched the student while they were walking on a trail between Woodward Middle School and the bus barn near New Brooklyn Road.

The student ran, and the man did not follow, Bainbridge police said.

“Our paramount concern is the safety of our children,” said Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matt Hamner.

“We are investigating this incident and have extra patrols in the area,” he said.

The student described the person as a white man in his early 40s, approximately 6-foot-4, over 200 pounds, with white or silver hair, bushy eyebrows, and a crooked nose.

During the alleged incident, the student said the man was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, brown pants, and silver and blue shoes, according to Bainbridge police.

Bainbridge Island School District staff were told about the incident by the student Wednesday, and the district then contacted the Bainbridge Island Police Department.

There have been no other similar incidents reported on Bainbridge, according to police.
