MONDAY, OCT. 8

11:15 a.m. A witness said a woman in a 2007 Chevrolet backed into the rear of another vehicle, a 2008 Ford Escape, as it was parked in the lot of the McDonald’s on High School Road.

The witness found the driver of the Ford inside the restaurant and told her what had happened. The driver who left the scene was described as a blond woman in gray sweatpants.

An examination of the car that was struck revealed almost no damage except for some small scrapes on the bumper.

2:34 p.m. A 16-year-old boy in a 2010 Ford Fusion lost control of his car and hit a stop sign on Wing Point Way.

The teen’s mother contacted police to report that her son had hit a stop sign at Azalea Avenue and Wing Point Way.

An officer talked to the teen, who said he had been going west on Wing Point Way and tried to turn north onto Azalea Avenue. He said the car did not make the turn because of the wet road.

An officer determined the Ford left the roadway, slid onto the sidewalk, then into the stop sign, before it traveled through a large group of bushes and finally stopped in the yard of a nearby home.

The driver first said he thought he was going the speed limit of 25 mph, but later said he was probably going about 35 mph.

Skid marks on the road and other evidence led police to conclude the teen was traveling at a speed too fast to make the turn safely. The driver was cited.
