Get set to relive the time of your life as “Dirty Dancing” (1987) returns to the big screen at Bainbridge Cinemas at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13.

In the summer of 1963, innocent 17-year-old Baby (Jennifer Grey) vacations with her parents at a Catskills resort. One evening she is drawn to the staff quarters by stirring music. There she meets Johnny (Patrick Swayze), the hotel dance instructor, who is as experienced as Baby is naive. Baby soon becomes Johnny’s pupil in dance — and in love.

From Wikipedia: “The film was based on screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein’s own childhood. She originally wrote a screenplay for the Michael Douglas film ‘It’s My Turn,’ but ultimately ended up conceiving a story for a film which became ‘Dirty Dancing.’

“[The film] premiered at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival on May 12, 1987 and was released on Aug. 21, 1987 in the United States, earning over $214 million worldwide. It was the first film to sell more than a million copies for home video, and its soundtrack created by Jimmy Ienner generating two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,’ which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet.”

It ultimately spawned a 2004 prequel/re-imagining “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights,” which received generally unfavorable reviews, and also a 2017 made-for-TV remake starring Abigail Breslin, Colt Prattes, Debra Messing, Bruce Greenwood, Sarah Hyland, Nicole Scherzinger and Tony Roberts. It also received negative reviews from the majority of critics, though Scherzinger’s performance was praised.
