Thousands of homes and businesses on Bainbridge Island were without electricity Saturday morning following a heavy snowstorm that hit Western Washington Friday afternoon.

Overnight snow, combined with Friday’s flurries, left snow as deep as a foot in some areas on Bainbridge.

Puget Sound Energy reported 594 different power outages across its service area Feb. 9.

A total of 52,432 PSE customers were without power at 11 a.m. Saturday.

PSE said it pre-positioned crews and materials before the storm to be prepared for outages, but also noted that road conditions were slowing crews.

On Bainbridge, outages were reported from the Grand Forest all the way south to Fort Ward. Smaller outages were reported on the north end of the island, near Seabold, Hidden Cove and along Sunrise Drive.

Bainbridge Island city officials said they were activating the city’s Emergency Operations Center at 10:30 a.m. Multiple road closures have been reported across the island due to fallen wires.

Washington State Ferries said vessels were on schedule throughout the system following delays on some routes earlier Saturday.
