To the editor:
This February, Bainbridge Island School District will place a $15 million capital levy on the ballot. A significant portion of these funds will enhance the music, art and drama programming at Bainbridge High School.
A strong music, arts and drama program is essential to a well-rounded high school education and provides a safe space for students filled with opportunities to perform, create, and engage with their peers.
Converting the current commons into an auditorium will create an essential space for theater, band and choir performances and serve as an additional rehearsal and workshop space. The expanded classroom/rehearsal spaces along with a multi-purpose proscenium stage will be assets shared by the entire community.
As educators who have been involved in the drama program at Bainbridge High School, we have seen so many students, including some of our own children, blossom on stage, find connection through theatre, and build their sense of self during their adolescent years.
Investing in a venue to strengthen this program should be a high priority in our community. Please join us in voting yes!
