Seattle’s Matt Pentz will visit Eagle Harbor Book Company at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17 to discuss his debut book, “The Sound and the Glory,” a comprehensive look at the Seattle Sounders franchise and its storied run for the MLS Cup.
A sensation from the start, the Sounders attracted crowds bigger than any other soccer team in the Western Hemisphere. Despite this, Seattle had yet to actually win the league. In order to reach the ambitious goals that the club set for itself, the Sounders needed the jolt of a championship.
Pentz, the award-winning beat reporter from the Seattle Times who covered the Seattle Sounders’ historic run to their first MLS Cup championship, details the team’s early popularity and subsequent uphill battle to victory.
It was a tumultuous journey for a club that had been built on stability; the Sounders saw a clash of egos, a power struggle over the future of the franchise, and a title run no one could have predicted.
Pentz is a Seattle-based writer whose work has appeared in the New York Times, the Guardian, and ESPN, among other publications. This is his first book.
