THURSDAY, MARCH 14

7:18 p.m. A 38-year-old transient from Seattle was trespassed from private property near Weaver Road after police were asked to perform a welfare check on a strange man seen talking to himself.

Police found the man, who had come over on the ferry from Seattle, in some blackberry bushes. He was delusional, saying he was part of the CIA and Homeland Security. He had “a thousand-yard stare and appeared to be on some kind of narcotic,” police said.

Offered a ride back to the ferry, the man refused, saying he would walk.

He left, mumbling to himself as he made his way in the direction of the terminal.

SUNDAY, MARCH 17

1:29 a.m. A 33-year-old Bainbridge Island man was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Police came across a small pickup truck stopped in the road while traveling north on Madison Avenue near Wyatt Way. As they approached, the truck began to pull away.

The truck swerved over the center line and fog line several times, then turned east onto High School Road. Police stopped the truck near the entrance to Safeway and spoke with the driver, detecting the strong scent of alcoholic beverages about him.

When asked how much he’d had to drink the man said, “Too much.”

He performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was arrested. During a preliminary breath test, the man blew a .235.

At the Kitsap County Jail his bail was set at $5,000, as he had no prior convictions.
