Early voting starts in Kitsap County; nearly 20 percent of county has already cast ballots

Early voting has started in earnest in Kitsap County.

Nearly 20 percent of currently registered voters have already cast their ballots for the Nov. 6 General Election, according to the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office.

Ballots were mailed to voters on Oct. 17.

County officials said 151,628 ballots have been sent out.

Through Thursday, Oct. 25, a total of 27,769 ballots have been returned. That’s 18.3 percent of the total number of registered voters in the county.

The largest number of ballots received by the county during a single day arrived on Wednesday, Oct. 24, when 9,919 ballots were turned in.

The last presidential election in 2008 saw a record turnout in Kitsap County, with nearly 126,000 voters casting ballots.

Voters who have not yet received a ballot in the mail should contact the auditor’s office for a replacement.

The deadline to register to vote in person at the auditor’s office is Monday, Oct. 29 for voters who are not currently registered to vote in Washington state.
