School district changes timeline for finding a new school board member

Officials with the Bainbridge Island School District have changed their schedule to fill the school board seat left empty by the recent resignation of Bainbridge School Board President Sheila Jakubik.

Jakubik stepped down on from the board April 16 because of work and career issues.

The school board will interview candidates and vote to appoint a new board member to the District 5 position in May.

The person selected for the board will serve out the remainder of Jakubik’s term, which is set to expire December 2021.

According to the new timeline for filling the vacancy, application materials for potential candidates will be available on the school district website April 26.

Applications for the position are due at the district office by noon Thursday, May 9.

District officials will review all formal application materials reviewed and candidates contacted regarding interviews on Friday, May 10.

Candidate interviews are planned for Tuesday, May 14. A special session of the school board will be held for interviews, beginning at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held in the district’s board room.

The new school board director will take the oath of office at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at that night’s school board meeting.
