The Bainbridge Spartan tennis teams advanced to play Bishop Blanchet in a quarterfinal matchup earlier this week at Ingraham High School

With Bishop Blanchet as the No. 3 seed and Bainbridge seeded fifth, the Spartans had their work cut out for them.

“They were just a bit too strong and took both matches,” noted Spartan Head Varsity Tennis Coach Jennifer Anne Shorr.

The BHS boys team fell 4-1 against the Braves, while the BHS girls finished on the empty end of a 5-0 loss.

“The boys gave a tremendous effort and almost pulled through,” Shorr added. “Excellent tennis and a fine team effort.”

“Our boys had a great day with Erik Perkins coming back from a set down to take his match to three sets in the singles and Asher Van Slyke played well again in singles,” the coach said. “In the doubles were Ryan Wilson with John Tappan, who went three close sets going down 6-4 in the third; Bjorn Stanley and partner Liam Welch, who lost 7-5, 7-5.

“We took the win with Sean Westerhout and Elliot Weyland on court three,” Shorr added.

In girls play, the Spartans were represented by Matty Dunham and Paige Tomer in the singles; and Marianne Milander and Catherine Rolfes, Jessica Pecunies and Jillian Abullarade and Lindsay Payne with Lena Klinkenberg in the doubles.

Tournament play begins Saturday in Seattle.
