To the editor:
My name is Andrew James, I’m 13 and going into the eighth grade. I am a Boy Scout with Troop 1564, and attempting to achieve the Communications Merit Badge.
I would like to bring up more awareness to texting and driving. It is a problem around the globe. More than 1.5 million driving accidents are caused from phone use while driving every year.
I want to raise awareness of this issue because of how serious it can be; from serious injury to death. I have been in instances where I look out the window only to see a driver with a phone in their hands, with other people or even kids in the car.
I believe the city of Bainbridge Island should better enforce the texting and driving law.
Also, all drivers should be more aware of their surroundings, environment, and the deadly consequences of texting and driving.
