TUESDAY, AUG. 6
6 p.m. A 37-year-old woman from Boise, Idaho was driving a 2016 Chevy Impala north on Highway 305 during afternoon rush-hour traffic and failed to notice the cars in front of her had slowed and were stopping due to congestion.
The woman later told police she’d looked down at the center console, searching for her water bottle, and upon looking up again, found she was too close to avoid striking the stopped car in front of her.
She hit the rear of a 2011 Mini Cooper, driven by a 17-year-old Poulsbo girl.
There were no injuries.
The woman was cited for inattentive driving.
8:40 p.m. The island police department’s Marine Division responded in a boat to a Coast Guard request to investigate two kayakers possibly in distress near Alki Point in Seattle.
The kayakers turned out to be fine, and were sitting down to watch the sunset.
No rescue was needed.
A report was filed.
