Southbound traffic on Highway 305 came to a dead stop during the Tuesday morning commute after a multiple-vehicle collision just south of Koura Road.

Details were initially sparse. The crash occurred just before 9:30 a.m. Sept. 17 and apparently involved a chain reaction of vehicles rear-ending each other during Tuesday morning’s continuing rainstorm.

No one was taken to the hospital for injuries, according to the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.

Drivers heading south faced long delays. Some drivers turned around in the middle of 305 instead of waiting for traffic to clear.

Multiple units of the Bainbridge Island Police Department and the Bainbridge Island Fire Department responded to the scene, and at one point, a fire engine blocked the entire southbound lane and most of the northbound lane of 305.

A fire engine and aid car were released from the scene at about 9:45 a.m. Police were interviewing drivers and others alongside the shoulder of 305.

Traffic heading north was lighter and faced shorter delays while police and other responders continued their emergency response just before 10 a.m.
