Michael V. Rockstad, age 57, passed away on Saturday, September 21 at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center in Alaska. He was born on September 18, 1962 in Seattle, WA and spent his early years on Bainbridge Island where he learned to love the water and fishing. He attended Bainbridge schools and then fished and worked in the Puget Sound area for several years before beginning his fishing career in Alaska.
Michael loved Kodiak and he was a loyal friend to so many people. The comments you will hear most about Michael are that everybody loved him, and he would give you the shirt off his back. He was always ready to help when someone needed it. He will be missed!
Michael is survived by his nine brothers and sisters: Paul Rockstad of Concrete, WA, Susan Lester and Patricia Lunde of Seattle, WA, Margaret Huling of Ridgefield, WA, Noel Hanish and Theresa Rockstad of Poulsbo, WA, John Rockstad of Port Townsend, WA, Rita Elsberry of Bainbridge Island, WA and Matthew Rockstad of Las Vegas, NV, as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mike will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island, Washington on Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. A rosary will precede the funeral at 10:15.
