The Lakeside Lions devoured the Spartans in three straight sets late last week in girls varsity volleyball in Seattle.

Bainbridge came up short 25-16, 25-15 and 25-10.

Spartan Coach Dominique Atherley said the Spartans were their own worst enemy, with the Metro League matchup seeing some of the same unforced errors in both serving and hitting that beset the team in its earlier contest against Bishop Blanchet last week.

Still, there were strong signs of improvement.

“The Spartans proved they could improve their serving over the week by having a 97.7 percent serving rating against Lakeside compared to a 79.2 percent serving rating against Blanchet,” Atherley noted.

Bainbridge hopes to see the same upward trend to the Spartans’ hitting percentage as they go into their second week of conference play this week, with home games against both Eastside Catholic and Holy Names in Paski Gymnasium.

Against Lakeside, Spartan freshman Rebecca Roman finished with six assists, five kills, six digs, and one block.

Spartan senior Paige Bouma added eight assists, two aces, three kills, and six digs.

Sophomore Allie Wildsmith contributed four kills, three blocks, and three digs.
