Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.
MONDAY, OCT. 21
1:17 a.m. A 48-year-old Bainbridge Island man was arrested for driving under the influence.
The man was seen driving erratically when he passed police engaged in a separate traffic stop on Highway 305, near the Lovgreen Road intersection, and drove dangerously close to the officers while swerving.
Police followed, observing the man speeding and repeatedly crossing both the yellow median and white fog lines.
The man was stopped near the intersection of High School Road. He strongly smelled of alcoholic beverages and his speech was so slurred as to be nearly unintelligible.
With some difficulty, he located and provided his license and insurance card.
He told police he was coming from the Clearwater Casino and had what appeared to be pizza sauce and food crumbs on his face and shirt.
He performed very poorly during a field sobriety test, so much so he was not offered the chance to provide a breathalyzer sample until after he’d been arrested and transported to the police station. Ultimately, he blew a .186 and was taken to the Kitsap County Jail, where bail was set at $5,000.
