To the editor:
Election security (“We need election security funding now,” bainbridgereview.com, Nov. 22) is not a question of funding; it is a question of process.
First, prevent improper voter registration by ending online and motor-voter registration. Show up in person with proper proof of citizenship.
Next, clear the voter rolls periodically and do not forward mail ballots. People move, and people die.
Finally, return to paper ballots. The process for handling ballots here in Kitsap is a proven safe and is a model for the rest of the state. The ballot-counting machines are clear of the internet, so ballots cannot be corrupted during the count. Isolate the ballots from the internet, and hacking is eliminated.
Once again, simple works.
The process may not be convenient, but it is about as safe as voting can be.
