Michael Pollock resigned his position on the board of the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District via an email sent Thursday, Dec. 19 to the park district.

The resignation was not unexpected. Pollock ran for a South Ward seat on the Bainbridge Island City Council, and vowed to step down from his Position 5 seat on the park board if elected in November.

Pollock, who defeated two-term incumbent Councilwoman Sarah Blossom for a council seat, will be sworn into office in late December. A ceremonial oath-of-office is planned for the first council meeting of the new year, in January.

Pollock was elected to a six-year term on the park board in November 2017.

His resignation letter, an email sent to park commissioners and staff, was simply titled: “I resign.”

It was a short message, just five sentences long:

“Dear Park Commissioners and Park Staff, I am resigning from my position as a Park Board Commissioner. Thank you for the honor of serving our community. It really has been a pleasure in so many ways, and a wonderful learning experience. I am looking forward to continuing my work with you in my new capacity as a City Council Member. Keep up the good work.”

The park board is expected to discuss, and adopt, a process and timeline for filling the empty board position at the commissioners’ next meeting.

The board will meet Thursday, Jan. 9 at Strawberry Hill Center.
