The BPA Gallery will present “Geology in the Abstract” as its next exhibition.
The show — featuring works of oil on panels by Mary McCann — opens during the First Friday Art Walk on Friday, Jan. 3.
In this body of work, McCann explores outcomes of events in the geologic story of our planet Earth. Ocean floors spread; tectonic plates move; continents collide; subduction thrusts up great mountains; and huge land masses slide past one another.
Though the artwork depicts the passage of millions of years – the Precambrian, the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras — the exhibit will only be around for two months. It will continue through Feb. 29 in the BPA Gallery.
The show opens with an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3.
The BPA Gallery showcases regional artists in revolving exhibits in the C. Keith Birkenfeld Lobby and regularly participates in the First Friday Art Walk.
Gallery hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, plus one hour prior to each BPA performance. Admission is free, and information is available online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org.
