Cancel culture is here and hard to stomach | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

Burning books, Beatles records and now burritos?

Cancel culture is bitter and acrid. Like the char from the bottom of a home made grilled cheese left unattended on the stove.

Unfortunately the casualty of this cancel culture cancer has been claimed in the form of a popular rotating themed dinner at Good Egg. A comment was made online of “cultural appropriation” (because the chef was cooking food outside her cuisine of origin) and then NO MISO SOUP FOR YOU!

Not even Orwell could have predicted genetic testing before designing a dinner menu. The strain of this culinary cyberbullying started at Portland’s Kooks food cart and has made its way into the blood stream of our community.

But don’t despair, gentle reader, for there is a cancel culture cure.

The avenue for the virus is “social media” (pronounced Facebook). So the prescription is simple; delete Facebook and limit use of glowing rectangular screens. Throw your phone into Puget Sound (figuratively?).

Within a few hours to days your vitals should return back to pre-Facebook levels. Nutrition is important to nurse back your health, so drive downtown Winslow to Good Egg for a bite to eat. Just about anything on the menu is good, but I recommend the Kimchee Grilled Cheese. It is a merging of salty/spicy east/west into a uniquely delicious dish.

But be sure to get it before it too is canceled, because when all you do is stay in your lane, pretty soon you run out of road.
