Three more people in Washington state have died from the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Washington State Department of Health reported Saturday.

The total number of people in Washington state who have died from COVID-19 is now 40 in Washington.

In a new assessment of the spread of COVID-19, state health officials reported Saturday that there have been 642 confirmed cases of the deadly virus in Washington, an increase of 568 from Friday.

King County remains the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis; 35 residents have died from coronavirus and 387 cases have been confirmed through Saturday afternoon.

“The numbers are going up quickly as more labs begin testing,” the state Department of Health noted Saturday.

Three cases of COVID-19 have been in Kitsap County:

• A South Kitsap resident in their 40s was reported on March 13;

• A Bainbridge Island resident in their 70s was reported March 10; and

• A Bainbridge Island resident in their 60s was reported March 8.
