Bainbridge blotter | Cross-island DUI

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

THURSDAY, APRIL 16

12:20 p.m. Police were called about a possible DUI driver going extremely fast while heading north on Highway 305.

The vehicle was reported as a 2004 Volvo XC90. An officer at Lovgreen Road saw the Volvo go by and caught up to it in traffic.

An officer watched as the driver repeatedly jerked the Volvo back and fourth in its lane and then tailgate the vehicle in front of it.

Earlier, 911 had been called about a similar vehicle that had been speeding and going off the road near Bucklin Hill Road. One witness said the car was going 50 to 80 mph and the woman driving was going out of her lane and off the road. The caller also said people had to dive off the sidewalk to avoid being hit.

As police caught up to the Volvo driver on Highway 305, the car almost went over the yellow center line several times before being jerked back into its lane.

At the intersection of Highway 305 and Seabold Church Road the Volvo driver slammed on the brakes and turned into a gravel driveway.

She was unable to stop in time before hitting and destroying a fence.

Police pulled behind the car as the woman was starting to back out.

The woman slurred her words when talking to police and was not smooth in her physical movements.

She admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day but denied drinking anything.

The driver, a 26-year-old Bainbridge woman, failed roadside sobriety tests but refused to provide a breath sample.

She was arrested for DUI.

She became a little uncooperative with police as soon as she was told she was under arrest, and began to talk about little kids getting raped in dungeons while she was being arrested.

When the woman was booked into jail, a check showed a previous DUI arrest, so no bail was set.

She subsequently provided a breath test, with results of .161 and .167.

During a search of her purse at the jail, authorities found drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
