To the editor:
I encourage support in behalf of Jim Halbrook now running for a potent Bainbridge Island City Council seat.
As a community advocate committed to true sustainability, I’m inspired by Jim’s extraordinary background and sincere, dedicated initiative. Too, having read a recent Kitsap Sun article titled … “Bainbridge man’s yearlong ‘McMansion’ protest gets a national stage!” … I feel privileged to speak in his behalf.
I’m inspired by the depth and breadth of Jim’s so relevant education (Ph.D. Biological Chemistry, University of California/LA), 31 years of therapeutic services and nine years of sustainable/service-oriented residency in our community. This said, I feel compelled to share COBI’s link to his application to serve as a city councilmember (https://www.bainbridgewa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/13642/Council-Vacancy-Application_James-Halbrook).
James is a truly a dedicated local resident and “farmer” with exceptional education who’s demonstrated his deep commitment to “balance,” true sustainability and service in our community!
Indeed, he has met his family’s needs in a sustainable manner without input of energy from outside his farm all-the-while devoting significant time to community advocacy — in part pacing back and forth holding a sign, which changes by the day, outside the Reserve at Winslow off Finch Road, a small new neighborhood where 12 homes are planned.
While finding the scientific data on climate change convincing, he wonders why actions of the Bainbridge council and administration are not seriously addressing this issue. Moreover, he finds their actions contra-indicated when it comes to pending environmental degradation and ecosystem collapse. I agree.
